Lovers Lane 04:03
Take the long way home In your father's Ford Watch the road Wind over the dashboard Pass the lonesome oak trees The wind whistles a chill With your hand on my knee I can't sit still The darkness of the woods The damp cold air Turn the engine off Run your fingers through my hair Lock the door Roll up the window Your body feels so warm Turn down the radio Your breath on my neck  Heats the autumn eve Don't stop to check  The rustling of the leaves A scratching at the window As footsteps become plain Our shadows aren't alone On Lovers' Lane The darkness at the door Clawing to get in Slivers of moonlight Illuminate a grin Start the car  Get back to the main road Guided by the stars Turn up the radio

We kissed at sunset.  Orange skies and a white dress. Groom and bride. Side by side. With a toast and a lifted veil, So begins this tragic tale. You can seek and I will hide... Cut the cake and break my heart. Call my name out in the dark. Search high and low... Look through and through... Locked in tight. Sealed with a kiss.  Hidden in young lovers' bliss. Search high and low...  Look through and through... Til death do we... Til death do we... Til death do we... part. Years passed by, yet grief remained... The knot untied, but passion chained. Up in the attic... sat a chest... All along, in the very home... In that trunk were the bones... Truth be told. Now I can rest... Cut the cake and break my heart. Call my name out in the dark. Search high and low... I am here with you... Locked in tight. Sealed with a kiss.  Hidden in young lovers' bliss. Search high and low...  I am here with you...

Past midnight, no one's around... And the raindrops on the car roof were the only sound. Up ahead, I can barely see... The figure of a woman drifting toward me. By the side of the road, another lost soul... Thumb extended, cold and alone. Pulled over, opened the door... Welcomed her in from the downpour... I just need a ride to the other side of town. Been walking down this street for what seems like an eternity. Hitchhiking to the dance was my only chance... To see the boy who gave his letter jacket to me... Past 1 AM, she bats her lashes. Reminiscin' about kissing and forgotten car crashes. Up ahead, we reach a gate...  She twirls her hair, I say a prayer, I know it's getting late. She pecks me on the cheek, and my knees are getting weak... Disarmed by her charm, my lips can barely speak She steps out of my car and looks up to the stars... "Before you get too far, won't you please tell me who you are?"  I just need a ride to the other side of town. Been walking down this street for what seems like an eternity. Hitchhiking to the dance was my only chance... To see the boy who gave his letter jacket to me... Past 2 AM, I found her jacket... Sitting on my car seat, I knew she'd want to have it.  Turned the corner, headed back around... Made my way to the old side of town. When I got back where we were, I saw no signs of her... So I jumped over the gate, and realized I had entered... A cemetery garden. Surrounded by the dead. Her tombstone looked back at me and y'know what it said? I just need a ride to the other side of town. Been walking down the street for what seems like an eternity. Hitchhiking to the dance was my only chance... To see the boy who gave his letter jacket to me...

Spin me, sweep me off my feet Handsome devil keep the beat They gawk--they stare You twist and twirl me round In your arms I'm unaware Dizzy and spellbound Pull me close, I feel your heat Smell of sulphur strangely sweet You glide with such grace Turning heads with red hot moves Yet the band cannot erase The clacking of your hooves

The girls had gone to bed. The girls had said their prayers. The girls snuck out the window. The girls had taken a dare... By the edge of the forest... Deep among the dead... In the thick of the graveyard... The youngest would rest her head. The stone arms of angel held her tight through the night. When they found her body Her hair had turned to white...

Gaze in the mirror Do you dare? If you light the flame Mary comes for... If you chant her name Mary comes for... Eyes glowing red Nails caked with blood If you light the flame Mary comes for... If you chant her name Mary comes for you

about

The "Tales of the Hook" EP is an urban-legends-inspired folk album by The Vanishing Hitchhikers (Melissa & Chris LaMartina).

Growing up, we all heard the same creepy tales of ghosts, graveyards, and maniacs. They were the stories reserved for camp fires and late night car rides... the type of morbid scares that kept us up at night, hiding under the covers. The songs on this album are folk-style musical retellings of those legends. We've done our best to capture the haunting atmosphere of those stories while crafting equally eerie compositions with suggestive lyrics and ghostly melodies.
